The Writing is on the Wall

Exhibtion
This exhibition brings together two diverse interpretations of architecture. Following a trip to Prague, Ryan Hays’ series of paintings and collages incorporate aspects of the buildings from Franz Kafka’s novel ‘The Trial’. Sun Yung, an architecture student, presents a series of watercolours and 2D works that reflect his life and thoughts in Dundee.

Artist Statement

One night, I dreamed that I had already left Dundee and tried to recollect the memory. Yet they were pieces of faded memory, like those memories I had of Hong Kong.

I wanted to keep the memory. I draw pictures to preserve it.

Water dries, pigment coheres, memories are frozen. Layer by layer, the images are clear and locked in the papers.

Yet, is it my memory? Maybe it’s your memory.
Is it the memory I want? Maybe it’s the memory you want me to have.
Is it true memory? Maybe it’s just my dream, maybe it’s just your dream, maybe it’s just our dreams. Maybe it’s nobody’s dream.

Maybe, it’s just a dream I dreamt.
